The British Aerospace Sea Harrier is a VTOL/STOVL (Short take-off and vertical landing) combat aircraft developed to equip the British Royal Navy. It entered active service in the late 1970s and in the early 1980s its primary role was fleet air defense. In 1982, embarked on HMS Invincible and HMS Hermes, it took part in the Falklands War, thus proving its operational efficiency. Although it had subsonic flight characteristics, far inferior to those of competing aircraft like the Mirage III, it was extremely maneuverable and reliable in all combat conditions. The Sea Harrier was armed with two 30mm ADEN cannons, positioned under the fuselage, and four pylons under the wings for carrying air-to-air missiles.
