Notable Features:
This bracelet was handmade during the Mid Century era. The bracelet is composed of three strands of silk string upon which Tahitian pearls, citrine, and quartz beads have been strung.
Eye-catching stones like these were very fashionable during the Mid Century era which saw jewelers creating pieces with unique and unusual stones, incorporating them into new bold designs, as well as designs based on popular fashion from the past.
Seventy-nine Tahitian pearl beads adorn the bracelet, each of which would have been harvested off the coast of Tahiti before being imported to be made into jewelry. Each pearl is peach with
a stunning luster that shifts in color as light hits the stones from different angles and intensities. The pearls were all polished and drilled through the middle before being strung on a white silk string. Between the pearls, a total of thirty-five quartz and thirty-eight citrine stones were also strung on the bracelet. These stones were tumbled and polished to beautifully display the deep brown hues of the quartz and the golden-yellow hues of the citrine.
Completing the bracelet is a 14k yellow gold fishhook clasp, the vibrancy of the gold a lovely complement to the warm peach hues of the Tahitian pearls. A classic example of the styles of jewelry popular during the Mid Century era, this bracelet would make a valuable addition to any antique jewelry collection. Don't miss your chance to preserve this piece of cultural history.

The History
The Mid-Century era, 1935 to 1965, encompassed many new styles of art and architecture and this carried over to jewelry making. This exciting time for jewelry saw movements such as Hollywood Regency, Modernism, Brutalism, and the Atomic Age. Native American artisans were also making their mark in the jewelry industry. Artisans used many kinds of metals, gemstones, glass, and experimented with ceramic and wood as well. This era was filled with new and innovative designs, while also rejuvenating and reinventing older styles. The unique jewelry which emerged from this era is still very popular today.
Tahitian pearls are grown in French Polynesia, a group of 5 island archipelagos that covers the size the Europe. These pearls are relatively new to the pearl world, and are highly sought after due to their unique color that is completely natural. Unlike the more common pearl types, Tahitian pearls typically have a naturally dark body color. They are formed from the black lip oyster. These pearls have become some of the most sought after expensive pearls in the world. Because of their vast color range matching these pearls into a finished strand is an enormous task that could require thousands of loose pearls to create a single strand.
Citrine is a variety of quartz that features a golden yellow hue. While yellow is the most common color, it can also be seen with a greenish-yellow, brownish-yellow, or orange tint. One famous variety of citrine is Madeira citrine, which is named for the Madeira islands off the coast of Portugal. Citrine takes on a deep orange or reddish tint when heat treated.
Quartz is the second most abundant mineral found in the Earth’s crust. The name is derived from the German term “quarz” and originated from the Slavic word meaning hard. It is known to be one of the hardest minerals on earth which is why it has been historically utilized in making jewelry. Quartz gemstones are hard, durable and extremely attractive. The stones can come in a variety of colors and hues. Quartz is an inexpensive mineral, while some varieties can be extremely rare, most varieties and sizes are commonly available. It has been used for centuries in the creation of jewelry and other ornamental objects. Quartz is an extremely versatile material that can be cut and carved into many shapes and sizes which has made it an asset historical and antique jewelry. Today, quartz is one of the most important gemstones in the colored stone trade and in jewelry making.
