    Description

Historic 1932 Model Airplane Ignition Engine HURLEMAN /BROWN Engine #A-11
Note: The flat cylinder head,... the first "A" model engines did not have the two holes drilled in the top of the head for a cylinder removing tool.  .Many low # fakes have been made over the past 80 years    Own a piece of model airplane gas engine history - Vintage Model Airplane Engine   Hurleman -Brown,  1932,  Engine  #A-11, .60 displacement. As found ,... LIKE NEW.. Look at the cylinder head and cylinder color ! , perhaps "test run" on a bench only ?   Engine crankcase is NOT stamped with the typical  "Brown Jr Motors" and the two piece spark plug does NOT say "Junior Motors" on it..... This is a pre  "Brown Jr " .patn'd.  logo engine (check various ignition model engine collectors Internet web sites to verify Hurleman and Brown Jr Motors early history ....also see the Engine Collectors Journal, Vol 33-2     Issue #188,    July 2008   for a photo article on the Brown "A" engines history ,both originals and fakes.(A-1,A-4 ). Engine is mounted on a nice old original hand made wood test stand, excellent black cylinder head and fin color, correct gas tank with a "Schrader" screw off cap. Engine turns over with good compression, coil decal says: Walter Hurleman Inc "the HURLEMAN Line" Philadelphia USA. Has a Mystery condenser (a large Bakelite unit with the #'s 4989-D on it and maybe an automotive item) ?   Spark plug has some color lost due to a spark plug wrench ,  includes a  14"  wood prop with no ID on it , perhaps hand made (?)    Numerous photos should answer all your questions as to originality and excellent condition.    Included is an original 1934 Popular Mechanics Article on Brown engines. ( the engine was found in a attic by a antique music instrument  collector in Philadelphia , wrapped in a oily rag  and placed in a violin case, not far from the Browns home)....TRADE ?  Always interested in quality  factory or home built :\" pre-war" gas powered model tether or rail race cars .
