It measures approximately

Inches. This photograph is of a senior politruk Nikolai Vasilyevich Spitsyn, he became a regimental political commissar later in the war. During WWII he served in the 1145 Rifle Regiment in the 353 RIfle Division. You can see his battle path on screenshot 2.
Interesting fact: During WWII German soldiers were ordered not to take any political commissars as prisoners by the German high command, and execute them on the spot because they were considered enforcers of "Judeo-Bolshevism" ideology in the military forces.
